Transitioning into a new role is always a bit of an adventure, but when you add in the thrill of joining a fast-growing, remote-first company like Appinio? That’s next-level excitement. Let’s take a look at how Hayley Moorhouse, Appinio’s UK Lead in Research Consulting, adapted to her new role—and how Appinio’s unique onboarding experience and culture made all the difference.
From Warner Bros. to Appinio: Hayley’s Journey So Far
Before stepping into the world of Appinio, Hayley had already racked up a decade of research experience. Most of her work revolved around the media sector, where she managed international research for Warner Bros. Discovery. Her projects spanned large-scale, multi-market studies across departments like marketing, programming, strategy, and finance.
So, what made her decide to join the team at Appinio, switching from a client-side role at one of the biggest media companies to her first agency-side position? Simple: she wanted a new challenge.
“I was very excited to have a change and a new challenge by joining the team at Appinio,” Hayley shares. “It is my first agency-side research role and I wanted the opportunity to experience the fast-paced environment that agency brings.” And, of course, Hayley was also drawn to the chance to expand her horizons beyond the media world.
The Appinio Interview Experience: A Click from the Start
What sealed the deal for Hayley during the interview process? She clicked with the Appinio team right away. “I really enjoyed the interview process at Appinio and immediately got on well with everyone I met during that stage,” she recalls. The role was the perfect match, too. As Appinio’s UK business was growing, we needed someone to lead the Research team, and Hayley was ready to take on that challenge.
“I love leading people, helping them to develop and achieve their career goals whilst also growing the business,” she says. “I saw a great opportunity to play a part in shaping the UK arm into something amazing!”.
Onboarding: Feeling the Appinio Welcome
Joining a remote-first company could have felt isolating, but Appinio’s onboarding program ensured that Hayley felt connected right from the start.
“In my first few weeks at Appinio, there was time to meet lots of new faces, foster great relationships, and get an overview of every department,” Hayley explains. Appinio’s focus on relationship-building, even across screens, made a huge difference in helping her feel welcomed and prepared for her role.
And speaking of support, each new Appinioneer gets a buddy during onboarding. “You always have someone to lean on and ask questions to as you learn more about the company and how the business operates,” Hayley says. Plus, there’s no shortage of opportunities for virtual ‘coffee chats’—an Appinio tradition where new hires can casually get to know their colleagues beyond the work.
The “Aha” Moment: A Third-Day Spectacle
On Hayley’s third day at Appinio, she attended one of Appinio’s research team meetings—and that’s when she knew she was in the right place.
“Our whole-research-department meetings are a spectacle to behold,” Hayley laughs. “I knew after that meeting that I was going to love working here!” What stood out? The energy, the inclusiveness, and—importantly—the fun. The meeting was full of knowledge sharing, team updates, and good vibes, showing Hayley that while Appinio is serious about growth, it's also serious about enjoying the journey.
Balancing Act: Appinio’s Flexibility in Action
Being a working mum of two young children, Hayley knows all about the delicate juggle between work life and family life. “For me, life is a constant juggle; I want to give my all at work and excel in my career whilst also being here for my children,” she shares. “Appinio gives me the flexibility to work around my children, and that was one of the key factors that influenced my decision to join the company.”
Appinio’s remote-first, flexible hours allow Hayley to be present both for her family and her career. While she admits there’s no such thing as the “perfect balance,” Appinio gets her pretty close to it.
Living Appinio’s Values: Show That You Care
Appinio’s core values are more than just corporate jargon—they’re a way of life for every Appinioneer. For Hayley, the value that resonates most is “Show That You Care.” And it’s not just about caring for clients or work outcomes; it’s also about looking out for one another as people.
“One of Appinio’s core values is ‘Show That You Care,’ and my manager shows me this by understanding that I am doing this balancing act, taking a genuine interest in my family life and supporting me so that I am able to give my best at work,” Hayley says. This level of personal understanding and support makes a world of difference in her experience.
Looking Ahead: Exciting Projects on the Horizon
So, what’s next for Hayley at Appinio? She’s especially fired up about an upcoming project—a big client event in London where she’ll be presenting the findings of a major research study.
“We’re prepped to showcase a piece of client research at a big evening event.” Hayley says. “I’ll be presenting the study and its findings to a large group of existing and potential clients at a great London venue. It’s an exciting opportunity to share what Appinio does best.”
Even more exciting? The collaboration it took to make it all happen. From commercial securing the project to research conducting the study, design creating stunning outputs, and marketing organizing the event, it’s a true testament to Appinio’s cross-team magic.
Reflecting on the Decision: The Perfect Fit
“I’m super happy that I made the decision to join Appinio,” she says. “The people are smart, energised, and an extremely friendly bunch. The ways of working allow me to support my family as well as do my best at work. And the business is growing at an exciting pace. It’s everything I was looking for.”
